Why we teach Music
At Cliffdale, we believe that music is more than just a subject; it's a vital part of our pupils' learning and development. It's a universal language that transcends abilities and can be a powerful form of communication for all. We teach music because it's accessible to everyone, and because, for some of our children, it can be their way of expressing themselves.
From the songs in our assemblies and the celebratory songs of our Harvest Festival, to the joyful tunes that fill our corridors, music is woven into the fabric of our school day. You'll often hear music playing, helping our children transition between activities, creating a calming and predictable environment. It's an extension of communication, a source of joy, and a way to bring stories to life.
How we teach Music
We use music in a variety of ways throughout the school:
- Bucket Sessions: Exploring rhythm and creating sounds together.
- PE Hall Music: Encouraging movement and coordination.
- Transition Songs: Structuring our day and signalling different times, creating a sense of routine and security.
- Small Group Work: Providing a focused and supportive environment for musical exploration.
What difference it makes to our children:
Music gives our children:
- Emotional Expression: It gives children a safe space to explore and express their feelings, helping them to develop self-awareness.
- Cognitive Development: Counting songs make learning maths fun and engaging.
- Confidence Building: Participating in musical activities boosts self-confidence and self-esteem.
- Engagement and Motivation: Music captivates children's attention and motivates them to participate actively.
- Communication: For some of our students, music is a crucial form of communication, allowing them to express themselves in ways that words cannot.
At Cliffdale, we celebrate the power of music to enrich our pupils' lives. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and transformative potential of music, and we are committed to providing a rich and inclusive musical environment for all.
