Today we had our first whole school Team Day, we welcomed all of the new children to their teams making new friends and getting to know staff from other classes. All of the children looked fabulous in their team coloured t-shirts, it’s always so cheerful seeing everyone wearing red, green, yellow and purple to represent the Cliffdale star.
During the morning, children spend time participating in crafts, sensory play, cookery and games, all in their team colour theme. This brings children of the same team together, time to get to know each other and have some fun.
After break the Lower School moved from their classrooms to meet team members from other classes in various locations around the school such as the music room, art room, cookery room and the field. The children created great pieces of art work, with the purple team completing a huge bunch of grapes! Lots of singing could be heard as they practised their team chants with instruments and ribbons to complement their enthusiasm. Huge parachutes flew high into the air whist the children ran to get under in time, it was so exciting!
All of the children in Upper School met their team in the hall for competitive crafts! The teams where given the challenge to produce a length of team bunting for afternoon assembly. Points were awarded for team cooperation, helping each other, keeping their area organised and quality of the finished product. They all worked so hard and gained points for their teams. These are the first points of the year and had red on top going into assembly.
To finish the day the whole school came together in the afternoon for assembly. Each team sat together rather than in their classes, using instruments to sing their chants as loud as they could. Throughout the assembly, the anticipation was building...which children were to be the team captains for this year?! There are two captains in each team, they count and collect the points each week in Friday assemblies, and they represent their teams for special days. The children in the upper school talked about who it might be…
For the Yellow team we have Marisa and Areen, in the Purple team Niamh and Rudy, for the Red team Mason and Maddison and representing Green team Mazin and Keeleigh. They were presented with their certificates and will have special captain t-shirts to be worn each week in assembly. Lots of big smiles for their first photos as the Team Captains for 2018-2019.
The first job for the captains was to collect the points awarded to children given certificates for their summer holiday diaries. These points were collected and added to the morning points to result in the team winner of the week. The team with the most points, starting the year in front is the Purple Team! However, its close and all of the children know that over the year they can get more points for their team and Purple will have to work hard to keep in first position!
