Diwali is also known as the 'Light Festival'
Diwali is also known as the ‘Light Festival’ when Hindus celebrate New Year and reflect on the safe return of Lord Rama after he defeated an evil king and how the people welcomed him back with lots of lamps called divas.
The children learnt about the story linked to Diwali and some classes even acted the story out. The children made divas using salt dough and decorated the divas with colourful sequins, little gem stones and other small decorative objects.
Diwali is a festival of colour and a time for fireworks! Children made colourful firework pictures and watched videos of firework displays that take place at this time.
Hindus decorate their homes with Rangoli patterns and flowers to make their houses look colourful. Lots of children enjoyed making beautiful, colourful flower garlands.
The favourite of all the festival activities on RE days is the tasting of different foods. Children tasted samosas and onion bhajis, which were delicious!
