Lower School pupils were immersed into a day full of colour and awe and wonder to launch their new topic ‘Colour Magic!’
On the 19th September Lower School pupils were immersed into a day full of colour and awe and wonder to launch their new topic ‘Colour Magic!’ Everyone had a fantastic day and the pupils enjoyed sorting, painting, mixing, cooking and dancing…all with colour. The look of surprise and amazement on everyone’s faces as they investigated the different ways colour could be changed was priceless!
Every class had to contribute to making a layer of a ‘rainbow cake.’ The pupils worked as part of a team to read the recipe and measure out the ingredients to make the cake. The best part was observing the ‘magic’ of the cake mixture changing colour as food colouring was added. Each class joined their coloured layer to the cake and at the end of the day in assembly, Hayley showed everyone the most beautiful rainbow cake! It even tasted as good as it looked!
The hall was turned into a ‘colour disco’ for the day. The pupils had a wonderful time dancing to music using glow sticks, pom poms and ribbons. There was even flashing disco lights which the pupils learnt to operate and change the colours of! Even after all of the dancing the pupils managed to save enough energy to learn the words and signs to a new colour song with Elizabeth. The pupils worked really hard at playing the drums to the beat of the song! The drums were covered in glitter and rice which made a colourful mess when they were played really loudly.
All the pupils had great fun getting messy in the art room to see how they could mix paints together and explore what new colours they could make. They experimented with mixing the colours by splatting, swirling and printing with paint and rolling cars and balls in paint too. There were lots of colourful magicians in the art room that’s for sure!
It was an extremely busy day with non-stop fun from the beginning to the end. The pupils are now very much excited for the rest of the term with a topic full of colour and magic to look forward to!
