Little Canada

Little Canada

Another fabulous residential for 2019

Another fabulous residential for 2019.  13 adventurous pupils set sail to the Isle of Wight on Monday 10th June.  Two minibuses travelled from school all the way to Little Canada Adventure Centre in Ryde, Isle of Wight.  The ferry journey in itself was full of excitement!  Who was going to be the first to spot the dock at Ryde and seeing the hover crafts pass by was fascinating enough for some!

There was a little time to spare before ‘check in’ time, so everyone stretched their legs with a quick run around on the beach, despite the drizzly weather!  On arrival at Little Canada, the group was shown to their house by Liam the link worker, where they would spend the next 4 nights.  Once he had shown everyone around the house, he left to allow cases to be unpacked and rooms to be made homely and comfortable.

After some games in the MUGA, it was time for dinner.  There was a great choice and everyone ate very well on the first night and indeed for the whole week!  It was early to bed that night, to get ready for a busy day ahead on Tuesday.

The next morning was spent on the Vertical Challenge and Trapeze.  It was a brave start to the week but everyone embraced it and had a go!  Stefan and Mohammed got very high and Kimmie showed a great deal of determination, fighting her fear of heights.  It was Ty who stole the show on the Trapeze, he was incredibly brave jumping off the platform and trying to catch the trapeze bar, very impressive!  The challenges continued into the afternoon with abseiling and orienteering.

The week continued with this pattern, of a delicious breakfast in the dinner hall, followed by two amazing activities then stopping for lunch in the middle of the day; then returning for more activities, fun and adventures after lunch.

After dinner every evening there was another activity, which were different every day.  However, the disco on Thursday evening was, of course, the most popular! There were some very impressive dance moves from some of the children and a great time was had by all.  The campfire was a little cold and wet, but everyone had a good sing and there was at least some lovely hot chocolate to warm everyone up!

There were certain activities that really excited the group, especially quad biking, the zip wire and the giant swing.  Of course Alfie was amazing at quad biking and Bradley conquered his fear and decided to have a go on the zip wire.  The giant swing looked quite scary to everyone but Ollie and Keeleigh came off smiling the most!  Another special moment was Stefan having and winning a duel against the instructor during the fencing session, he was very nimble of his feet!

It was a week full of highlights, laughter, fun, adventure, kindness, excitement, friendship and lots of experiences that will be remembered forever.
