Little Canada, Isle of Wight

March 2017

For the first time this year we took the year 6 pupils on residential to PGL Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. Many of our pupils had been to Fairthorne Manor the previous year and so getting a ferry across the Solent felt like a really big adventure.

We left school in the minibuses on Monday 27th March and the sun was shining, it was a glorious day for a trip on the Wight Link ferry. Most of the pupils spent their time out on the deck enjoying the views. After arriving at the centre we went for a long walk to the beach to stretch our legs and to look across to Portsmouth. We returned to the centre to check into our accommodation which was situated in a big house called Woodlands on top of the hill, the rooms were enormous! We had a cooked lunch in the dining hall and everyone was impressed with the all you can eat salad bar. Followed by an afternoon of activities and a sing-along campfire.

Each day pupils participated in at least two outdoor adventurous activities and an evening activity. These activities included giant swing, blind trails, climbing and abseiling, bushcraft and sea kayaking. However, the pupils say that their favourite activities which included the most laughter and adrenaline were aeroball and quad biking. One of the highlights for the pupils and an opportunity to get dressed up is the disco. The disco at Little Canada is held in the main hall and all of the primary school groups attend. There was lots of dancing and many of the pupils made new friends.

Little Canada has been an amazing week. The pupils and staff enjoyed action packed days and fun filled events in a beautiful environment.
