This year there was a great sense of anticipation as the date for our performance had been delayed due to the February snow!  So, on a sunny day in April our year 5 and 6 pupils headed to Portsmouth Guildhall to perform their JRock piece titled ‘Everyday Heroes’.

What kind of person do you want to be? An everyday hero that chooses to help and make people smile? Choosing to look after others and standing up for what’s right. Sometimes it’s hard to make the right choice and sometimes we don’t get it right. But every day is a new day, a chance to choose again.

This was the basis for our performance this year. The everyday people of Portsmouth just living their everyday lives, are given a choice. Would they be the villains of the city creating disharmony and strife or will they be the heroes bringing kindness and peace. The pupils performed the villains and the heroes battling it out on the streets of Portsmouth with ultimately the heroes winning, with a twist. The villains are given the chance for redemption, an opportunity to choose change. Leaving the end of the performance with a question…what do you choose?

The pupils had a wonderful experience, from joining the other schools for dance warm ups to the trips out for lunch with their friends and ultimately performing on the stage in front of a huge audience including their family and friends at the Guildhall.  It really was the natural high that is the intention of the ‘Be Your Best Foundation’ that organise the events. It’s certainly a highlight of the year for our pupils.

On the night we were awarded six Awards of Excellence for Cultural & Educational Achievement, Positive Inclusion, Soundtrack, Entertainment, Concept and Spirit of Rock Challenge. These awards were accepted on the behalf of the Cliffdale team by the student representatives; Rudi, Chloe, Elle and Caitlin. A very well deserved array of awards for JRock 2018.
