JRock

3rd March 2017

All of the pupils in year 5 and 6 participated in this year’s JRock performance on stage at Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday 3rd March. They’d been working hard rehearsing each week since October and their efforts resulted in a brilliant performance.

Pupils and staff arrived at the Guildhall to a very excited schools audience in the main arena. Lots of dancing and singing, the JRock team getting everyone warmed up and ready for the day. Pupils could watch the other schools rehearse and some pupil reps had to attend their production team meetings. Cliffdale had their rehearsal in the afternoon and the other schools went crazy for their joy and enthusiasm appreciating the music and dance.

Later in the afternoon small groups went out to enjoy their picnic tea in the park before returning to put on their costumes and makeup ready for the live performance before a huge audience of friends and family.

Their performance this year was called ‘Destination Unknown’…

Our imagination can take us to places that we've never seen and on journey's that are wilder than we've ever known. Where are we going? What will we see? We'll face our fears and explore our world with bravery and courage. Leading others forward to wonderful places and helping each other along the way...

The pupils were amazing!  The dancing and drama was performed with enthusiasm, swimming through the seas, exploring the jungle and a visit to space. They all really enjoyed the experience, even if a little nervous of being on stage before a huge and very appreciative audience. Their hard work paid off as we were rewarded with being placed 3rd! A huge achievement, as Cliffdale competed against nine other schools on the night.  In addition to coming 3rd place we won a further ten awards which were given for:

  • Excellence for Stage Use
  • Excellence for Drama
  • Excellence for Concept
  • Excellence for Soundtrack
  • Excellence for Set Design and Function
  • Excellence for Lighting
  • Excellence for Costuming Character
  • Excellence for Entertainment
  • Spirit of Rock Challenge
  • Award for Positive Inclusion

It really was a fantastic day for all of the pupils and staff involved, but a special mention must go to the Cliffdale Pupil Reps who stayed on until very late in the evening to receive all of our awards…Marley, Lara, Joe, Elle and Kenzie; they truly were a credit to the school.
