Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival

We were very lucky to be able to go to St Nicholas Church opposite the school again this year for our Harvest Festival.

This year we had the new Reverend of St Nicholas Church, Reverend Sam to welcome all of us to the church. We were joined by lots of our families and carers, including grandparents, aunts and uncles! Jackie Peters also joined us from Portsmouth Foodbank again this year. This was our fifth Harvest Festival in the church and with Jackie, so we all felt like old friends!

As with previous years we donated all of the food that we collected from the Cliffdale families and staff to Portsmouth Foodbank, which supports local Portsmouth families in crisis. The Foodbank asked us this year if we could collect lots of tinned vegetables that could increase their stocks and help to get them through the winter supporting Portsmouth families.

We collected huge amounts of food which was displayed at the front of the church for all to see. In addition each class had decorated a harvest box which they brought up during the service and gave to Jackie and Reverend Sam.

Our Harvest was a wonderful celebration of singing and percussion playing. We sang some of our favourite songs including the ‘Harvest Samba’, the ‘Whole World’, and everyone’s favourite, ‘Conkers’! We were all glad that the choir helped everyone with singing the words; they stood at the front of the church and helped us sing every song! Lots of children also stood at the front of the church to accompany the songs with instrument playing, singing and signing.

Jackie thanked everyone for all of their kind donations which go directly to families in need in Portsmouth. She told everyone about the number of families in Portsmouth who didn’t have enough food to be able to have breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Reverend Sam thanked everyone for a wonderful Harvest Festival at St Nicholas church and ended with a prayer of thanks.

Once we were all back at school, we took the Harvest Loaf around to every class to share…it was very tasty indeed!
