Forest school has continued in Spring with Lion, Panda, Kangaroo and Giraffe classes still going out once a week.

Linking in with their topic this term, Lion class have been learning about fire safety, what a fire needs to work and how to cook on a fire. They created a fire circle so they had a safe area to work in. Then, they cooked marshmallows on sticks to create smores and they also enjoyed hotdogs. The children collected twigs and sticks as fuel and discussed whether they had to be wet or dry and which ones would work best. Lion class listened really carefully and enjoyed some tasty food as well!

Panda class have been enjoying the forest and are gradually getting more confident in the woodland environment, solving problems on their way round forest obstacles. Flyn managed to negotiate his way across the ditch, balancing on two logs. Leah enjoyed working out whether to go under or over a log to get round it. Sam found a rivulet in the forest to jump in and eventually laid in it too!

Kangaroo class continue to enjoy exploring too; they enjoyed the story ‘The Gruffalo’ with Alfie finding a ‘cave’ where a Gruffalo might live. Neeson looked for a Gruffalo too, exploring with his stick.

In Giraffe class the children have found some interesting challenges and have been really trying to overcome them with some great methods. Fin decided the way to get across the ditch was to slide down on his bottom. Dylan had a go at crossing a log bridge and asked for help. James touched some moss, holding some for a minute and saying it was ‘soft’.

I can’t believe another term of learning in the forest has passed, with the children becoming more confident in this wonderful environment. More to come in Summer!
