Choir sings for the Roberts Centre

Yet another performance date for the Cliffdale Primary Academy Upper School Choir – and a very special occasion, too!

Yet another performance date for the Cliffdale Primary Academy Upper School Choir – and a very special occasion, too!

An invitation from the CEO of the Roberts Centre Charity (who support families in Portsmouth) asking if Cliffdale Primary Academy’s Choir would be able to perform at their 30th Birthday Gala Dinner in the Lord Mayors Banqueting Room in Portsmouth’s Guildhall.

How honoured!  The Choir had been invited to sing at this prestigious event following a recommendation claiming that the talent at Cliffdale is really good!

So, that was that… Friday 8th December 2017 was in the school diary!

Choir rehearsals suddenly became even more important than usual!  Following discussions with everyone in the choir, a selection of favourite Christmas and other songs were chosen.  The pupils also spent time thinking about how to improve their singing, signing and performance skills.  The choir always work extremely hard but have lots and lots of fun whilst doing so!

And then a really exciting part of this adventure was suddenly upon us…

The Choir pupils stayed at school (at the end of the normal school day) which, of course, involved having fish and chips for tea – yum!   A trip on the minibuses to Portsmouth Guildhall in the dark followed – again, all very exciting experiences!  And soon it was time to perform…at 7.30pm we began!

Standing as tall as possible in front of a huge Christmas tree in the Lord Mayors Parlour, with an audience full of smartly dressed people watching, Cliffdale Primary Academy Choir sang louder and more enthusiastically than ever before – they were amazing!  They sung all of the songs that they had rehearsed and didn’t forget any of the words.   All of the guests were extremely impressed and wanted ‘more’!  So the choir sang ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’, which everyone joined in with!  The pupils were presented with a special teddy and a book each, from the Roberts Centre, as a thank you for their performance.

What an amazing and very special experience for the choir; everyone was very tired when their family picked them up at 8.30pm!
