Chinese New Year Assembly ~ Friday 27th January

We celebrated Chinese New Year in this Friday’s whole school assembly.  The hall was decorated in red Chinese lanterns, bunting and lights.  We all learnt how to say ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi’ which is ‘Happy New Year’ in Chinese.  We looked at all of the different animals that represent different years and learnt that 2017 is the year of the rooster.

We listened to ‘the story of Nian’ a traditional Chinese New Year story about an old man who scared a monster away from a village using the colour red, fire and fire crackers.

The hand chime club played a Chinese dragon song and then everyone danced to a Chinese ‘happy new year song’, sung by children.

Finally some children had a go at doing their own Chinese Dragon Dance with a dragon held above their heads; they moved and danced all around the hall to some fantastic Chinese Dragon Dance music.

The assembly finished with everyone tasting prawn crackers before saying ‘Kung Hei Fat Choi’ once more!
