Although it’s been an unusual start to the term Seahorse Class have made a fantastic start to the year and have made some great progress. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Can We Build It’ topic and have taken full advantage of all the exciting activities that have been on offer at home and in school.
Seahorse class have enjoyed exploring a number of different construction materials; a class favourite is building tall towers and knocking them down. Julia especially enjoyed building a tower with the numbered blocks and counting them. JJ enjoyed creating a town with the building themed bricks. Reign made a brilliant builder and enjoyed transporting his building materials in the wheelbarrow.
As a class the children have been working hard to play alongside others and begin to take turns. Rowan enjoyed using the giant ball run and engaged in some fantastic turn taking. Everyone enjoyed the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Some of their favourite activities have been exploring and scooping oats, making porridge and painting bear faces.
There have been daily live learning Attention Bucket sessions which Narin especially enjoyed and so many fantastic home learning activities. One of the favourites has been den building.
The children have been working hard and have made amazing progress with their communication skills and are using their PECS books and schedules with increasing independence and skill. JJ is now using communication boards in different contexts with increasing independence.
Well done Seahorse Class!
Welcome to Seahorse Class
What a fantastic start to the year we have had in Seahorse Class! This year Seahorse Class are a group of seven happy children, three girls and four boys who are all in Reception. We have all enjoyed getting to know each other.
Over the first weeks of term we have been learning to find our way to different parts of the school such as the exciting new playground, soft play and the sensory room. We’ve been learning how to use symbols and objects of reference to support us to know where we are going.
The staff in Seahorse Class have been learning about our favourite toys and activities and helping us try new experiences. We’ve been experimenting with different messy play textures using our hands and our feet. Lucy enjoyed exploring the foam. We have also been learning to follow new routines and practising leaving our favourite activities to complete focussed tasks with the staff. Julia especially enjoyed posting the fish.
We have had a busy start to the term finding out about our class animal Seahorse and launching our topic ‘Spots, Stripes and Scales’. We enjoyed searching for jungle animals. JJ used binoculars to spot the monkey and Rowan found the tiger. What a great start to the year we have had so far, we are looking forward to so much more!
