It has been a very different start to the term, and the children have had to get used to new ways of working and learning. However, the children in Octopus Class have impressed everyone by remaining settled and happy while continuing their learning in school and at home. There have been daily Live Learning sessions and Mathuran has attended every Attention bucket session; with his mum developing the ideas with him at home. The children in Octopus Class have made lots of progress during these sessions and have shown increasing amounts of engagement and enjoyment throughout the term.
Our topic this term has been ‘Can We Build It?’ In Octopus Class the focus has been on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘Construction Vehicles’ with activities taking place both at home and in school. The children have been making marks in chocolate ‘mud’ using their fingers and toy cars. Through weekly phone calls, the staff have been able to hear what the children have been doing at home. Children in Octopus Class have made the staff proud by completing puzzles without help and by using their communication boards to ask for snacks and drinks.
Octopus Class have also been practicing their play skills this term. Jasper and Yunus have been feeding the toy babies and playing with sand in the outside area, where they filled up buckets and learnt how to make sandcastles. Let’s hope the Spring sunshine is here to stay!
The children have joined the Early Years assembly each Friday morning, which is displayed on the whiteboard, via ‘Teams’. In school the children sit together watching the singing and stories and particularly show an interest in ‘Disco Ali’s’ dancing at the end. Let’s hope everyone can all enjoy assemblies together in the hall sometime soon!
Welcome to Octopus class
What a fantastic start to the year we have had in Octopus Class. This year Octopus Class are a group of five boys who are all starting Reception. We are all enjoying getting to know each other.
Over the first weeks of term we have been exploring all the new toys and seeing how they work; Jasper has especially loved the toy sink filled with water. We have been using symbols and objects of reference to support us in getting around school and we have really enjoyed going to our new playground, some of us love it so much we don’t want to leave! We have also started our topic ‘Spots, Stripes and Scales’. Octopus Class have been busy printing with paints and sponges to make snakes; Yunus did this all by himself.
We have also been learning to follow new routines and practising leaving our favourite activities to complete focussed tasks with the staff. We are working so hard and celebrating with our chosen rewards such as being outside playing with water or being pulled along in the wagon; Mathuran especially enjoys this! We can’t believe how much fun we have had already, it’s going to be a wonderful year!
