Head of Learning Lower School

A little about myself

My journey at Cliffdale Primary Academy started in 2011 as a Teaching Assistant. I had just finished my degree in Primary Education and I was wanting to gain more experience with working with children with special needs before starting my teaching career. I loved it so much, that I ended up staying for two years before leaving to teach in another local special School.

I then returned to Cliffdale in 2015 as a class teacher in one of the specialist classes. I am now the subject lead for English and I have recently taken on the role of Head of Learning for Lower School. I live locally in Portsmouth and feel very fortunate to live right by the sea. I spend my time taking my gorgeous dog Miles for walks along the shore. He likes to find the biggest, muddiest puddle to roll in…although he isn’t as keen on having a bath when we get home!  In the summer I like to travel and I have been fortunate enough to explore Thailand, Bali and Brazil. I am now planning to see more of Europe in the future. When I am not out walking Miles or thinking about where my next summer adventure could be I spend my time with family and friends…usually eating cake and laughing lots!

What excites me about my role

I love working with the pupils and staff at Cliffdale, there are always achievements to celebrate and challenges to overcome. In my new role as Head of Learning for Lower School I am looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for maintaining and improving the already outstanding teaching and learning that is at the heart of the school. I am excited to be able to not only influence the learning of the pupils in my class, but of every pupil in the lower school too! I am proud to be part of such a passionate team, both within in my own classroom and across the wider school. We all strive to ensure that all pupils achieve their very best by questioning, reflecting upon and sharing our own teaching and learning strategies. I am also excited to be able to have the opportunity to develop how English can be embedded into our new curriculum, by providing a balance between breadth and creativity and a secure foundation of skills. I have already learnt so much at Cliffdale from pupils and staff and I am looking forward to continuing to grow and learn in my new role. Every day at Cliffdale is different and that is what makes it so exciting and rewarding!
